What is The Miracle of Essiac Tea?
The "founder" of The Miracle of Essiac Tea is a Canadian nurse named Rene Caisse (1892-1978). Nurse Caisse found the formula while caring for a woman who had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was unable to afford surgery. The woman sought help from a native Ojibwa medicine man who gave her this recipe for a tonic. The Ojibwa natives have been preparing this cleansing tea/brew for generations. After taking this herb mixture, the woman recovered from her breast cancer and it never returned. She passed the recipe for the tea to Rene Caisse who became interested in using it for her terminally ill patients.
In the early 1920's, Rene Caisse began giving this four-herb mixture to her patients, which were primarily terminally ill with cancer in a brewed liquid form of "tea". She even administered this tea to her aunt, who was terminally ill with stomach and liver cancer. Her aunt also recovered and her cancer never returned. Rene Caisse began calling the tea "Essiac" which is her name spelled backwards.
Why is there a four herb Essiac formula and eight herb Essiac formula?
The original formula given to Rene Caisse consisted of four herbs. Many herbalists today use this shortened version, which is available as public domain. This version contains Sheep Sorrel, Burdock Root, Slippery Elm Bark and Turkish Rhubarb Root. There are still many companies operating today that make this original Essiac tea version available for sale. You can even go on the Internet and see the formula and for those adventurous enough, can buy the herbs and blend it yourself!
While in Canada, Nurse Caisse began experimenting with the formula in conjunction with Dr. R. O. Fisher. She continued testing other herbs with the original four, until she left Canada and partnered with Dr. Charles Brusch (noted scientist and personal physician to President John F. Kennedy) in 1959. Nurse Caisse spent 8 years at the Brusch Medical Research Center in Cambridge, MA. working with Dr. Brusch to create the most effective formula for Essiac tea, which is now the eight herb Essiac tea. This eight-herb miracle formula is proprietary, and it is this formula we supply to you.
